Arne Slot Insists He Is Secure and Retains The Club's Backing Following PSV Eindhoven Defeat

Arne Slot conceded that it's expected for doubts to be asked about his position following a further heavy loss versus the Dutch champions.

The Reds endured their ninth defeat in twelve matches, marking the team's poorest streak since being relegated in the 1953-54 season.

They were outplayed by the Dutch league champions on a punishing evening at Anfield.

“I'm confident, I'm fine, I've received a lot of backing from above,” the coach commented.

“It would be nice to change things and earn three points naturally but when you're working as a coach and struggling then it is normal that questions are asked.”

He continued, “I am OK with my situation. This isn't the first time I’ve been in a difficult position but it's crucial that we turned it around.”

Conversations with Club Management

When asked to expand on his dialogues with the club's leadership, Slot explained:

“There's regular dialogue. They assist to the team and to me and we have those conversations but they don’t call me every single minute of the day to say they trust me.”

He added, “In the normal discussions I feel the confidence. However I've not talked to them since this defeat yet so let’s see.”

Persistent Issues and Player Reaction

The manager lamented familiar failings from his Liverpool side in their European defeat, namely missed opportunities and leaking goals.

Meanwhile, player Curtis Jones was blunter in his view of the team's situation.

“I don’t have the answers. Truthfully, I don’t. I’m saying that to everyone,” the midfielder said.

“It is unacceptable. I don’t even have to wait to reflect. I'm beyond being angry internally. I’m at the point now where I simply lack the words.”

He continued, “It’s hard because I’m playing for the side I follow. I’m a fan, and I've watched this club for years.”

“In a long, long time, I haven’t experienced a Liverpool team enduring a spell such as this with performances like these.”

Jones stated, “However we still have that badge on our chest. And until it is removed, we will always battle.”

“Our aim is to bring this squad return to its rightful place, prove once more the values of this club and the reason it's called the greatest side in the world.”

“At this moment, things are bad and it needs to change.”
