Critical Role Campaign 4 Unveils the Soldiers Party

Ever since the premiere of Campaign 4, new Dungeon Master the talented storyteller has maintained audience suspense with deep backstory, a colorful mix of personalities, and a exciting storyline showcasing divine entities, demons, and dark forces expanding in influence within Dol-Makjar.

Note: Key plot points for Episode 3 of this adventure lie ahead.

The Combat-Oriented Party Introduced

Episode 3 ended with a huge suspense moment and presented the first table of heroes who will split off from the main group to begin their separate journey, apart from the remaining groups.

This warrior group consists of Teor Pridesire (portrayed by Travis Willingham), Thimble (the talented performer), the strong-willed figure (Whitney), the cleric (Sam), and Kattigan (Robbie Daymond).

Why Split the Party?

Given 13 cast members, it was clear from the start that having everyone at the same party would be unfeasible.

That’s why, the initial installments of this story serve as an Introduction, weaving together the characters’ stories before branching into three distinct groups: Soldiers, Schemers, and Questers.

The Nature of the Soldiers Table

As described by the Dungeon Master, the Soldiers table is for adventurers who enjoy a typically action-packed fight-heavy story mode where diplomatic options are few and far between.

At first glance, characters like the hesitant healer the cleric might look mismatched, but the developments of the third episode demonstrate why these particular heroes are best suited for the Soldiers table.

Why They Must Go

To begin with, the group understands precisely where to head next after a intense opening clash with the enemy group.

Casimir of Thjazi Fang—whose demise kicked off the campaign’s events—exploited the enemy for his selfish purposes, breaking into the hidden lair, assaulting the rogue, and swiping all the magical artifacts to dispose of.

Casimir then settled his liabilities and ran away to a Halovar stronghouse in Gormalay, Timmony, north of the urban center, with Cyd Pridesire close behind.

Character Drivers

Moreover, each character has a personal reason to leave the city the metropolitan area:

  • The agile hero, as Thjazi’s partner and best friend, desires retribution.
  • Kattigan knows Timmony and advises that it is a hostile place.
  • Tyranny and Wicander, having resisted his relatives’ demands to execute the fighter and instead saved him, have nowhere else to go.
  • But, their position as key figures in the influential clan could enable the team access locations they usually can’t.
  • Additionally, Teor vowed a unbreakable promise to The cleric for his salvation and will now follow him wherever.

Fugitives

In addition, all of them are sought by the powers that govern Dol-Makjar for a multiple motives, making remaining behind too risky:

  • The rogue and Kattigan are known criminals.
  • The warrior and The healer defied the influential house and the legion of demons they are partnered with.
  • Teor is targeted for elimination by the family.

This means them little choice but to head to Timmony in pursuit of Casimir.

Upcoming Developments

According to the latest episode’s post-show segment, we find out that the warrior group will be absent next week, leaving the rest of the players to assemble the Explorers and Strategists groups.

Audiences can expect finding out which players will be where in the story’s final introductory chapter, streaming live on the upcoming Thursday.
