If We Observe the Decline of the Movement of Attacking Play, Let’s Enjoy What It Created.
The Evolution of a Movement can be marked by distinct phases.
1. The Big Idea
A charismatic leader or figureheads present a new and transcendent idea offering a panacea for disconnected individuals.
And so it goes. They’re getting ready to challenge the establishment down in Brisbane. Tensions are rising. Signs of trouble appear from within. A lone figure, vulnerable, nervous, the phrase ATTACKING MINDSET displayed prominently as a statement, has stumbled into view and is being led away under a blanket for a temporary assignment elsewhere.
Do you ever miss the early days, when everything was fresh? The era of early Bazball, of pure instinct.
2. Love-Bombing
Cult leaders guarantee a fresh beginning, optimism ahead, support, redemption among a group with shared faith in the method.
What was this thing at first? Players celebrating basking in glory. Body art. Strength. Focus. Elite male wellness energy. Admittedly, The team will claim they don’t use the label, which is funny because if it doesn’t exist, what was that spectacle?
Yet it’s clear what it is. It’s the player executing a stroke so depraved it defies description. It’s the adrenaline of the captain in ultimate mode, a look that says: pensive Nordic god, beard made of wood, natural look, truly contemporary you half-expect to glance over and notice he’s fielding on the ground stripped to the waist embracing nature.
It’s the opener often seen speaking publicly, out there looking like a joyful figure smartly dressed, saying stuff like we’re challenging norms. Indeed, the atmosphere, for a significant period, was entirely positive.
3. Expansion Period
Development stage. Cohesion maintained via memorization of key phrases. These ideas are often illogical as a test of “true belief”.
Is it just me? The backlash, the outrage, the sense of betrayal after the first Ashes Test defeat appears excessive, unwarranted. The performance was poor during the match, as is typical there. They were dominated defensively in a short span as plans unraveled, manipulated by Travis Head batting like England but better, responsive to the situation, an athlete shining with aura.
Now there is the criticism, the frustration, the perception of the team as a kind of abomination. The opinion suggests that defeat must be total, they must be humbled, to be cleansed, flame-throwered, overwhelmed via traditional methods of Mitchell Starc’s movements, the simple basics of the veteran, seen enjoying his wickets with a bashful smile similar to getting a nice new fishing rod. What will this do to them?
4. External Conflict
Issues emerge from failures in the plan. Yet, mistakes are denied. It begins to thrive on anger towards critics.
The fact remains, approaching the upcoming game, we are at a critical juncture in the journey of this approach. England could quite easily win overseas through aggressive play. Alternatively, they could lose just as quickly. And if they do lose it appears we may see the decline.
Prior to that, several aspects to consider about this. Previously, at the start, of optimism and energy, a column appeared labeling it a movement. People were very angry, which proved the point because everyone knows how to confirm something definitely isn’t a cult is when its acolytes send hundreds of furiously one-eyed messages denying scrutiny of the philosophy.
Recent events lately is just as interesting. Opposition to the style has turned into a movement. Social media is furious, critical analysts, shots of angry middle-aged supporters abroad cheated out of three days of cricket, similar to timeshare owners seeking justice.
Conversely, there is the broader context of the opponent’s mixed deep-seated frustration at these weirdly passive-aggressive buccaneers, out there saying, hey, that thing you love and have developed as one way of separating yourself culturally from us, well, it’s all a bit of a gag in the end old boy.
And this is the real point. It’s all cults. The approach was a phenomenon because cricket is a cult. In fact, the sport in England is closed, a group, a garden party, a closed world with centuries of tradition and mystery behind it. It has long been where entry is limited. It’s the British pastime of the nation, the original sports washers. And guess what, Britain is itself a cult, a series of esoteric hierarchies, a royal family remains.
England’s cricketers have been sealed up within this world since childhood. In trying to escape from it, to build a better atmosphere, they are just repeating their own experience, forming a new circle, an exclusive group, but doing it this time with a new team and a leader encouraging individuality as long as yourself is quite a lot like myself.
Live where your feet are. Confront risks. Despite efforts, you’re always basically in the same place.
With this mind, now is the time to show understanding for the movement, to recognize its positives, which are significant. What does it represent? Creating a sense of freedom. Defying norms. Batting aggressively|Attacking with
