Line of Duty Confirmed for Seventh Season on BBC
The acclaimed police drama Line of Duty will make a comeback for its 7th season, confirmed by the BBC.
A brand new six-episode season written by the show's creator will begin filming in Belfast in the coming months, as confirmed by the production team.
Vicky McClure expressed excitement about the comeback, saying she was "so excited" about the show's renewal. Her co-star added, "How wonderful it is to know that the main trio will be back filming together soon."
The previous series concluded in recent years with a final episode that attracted over 17 million audience members. Speculation about a potential return have been circulating ever since, but official word only arrived recently.
New Challenges for The Team
Series seven will open with the anti-corruption unit having been disbanded and renamed as the Inspectorate of Police Standards, according to production details.
Martin Compston's character, Vicky McClure's role, and Ted Hastings continue working to tackle misconduct within the police force.
Their work "has never been more difficult", and under these circumstances, the trio will take on their "most delicate case so far."
New Character and Intricate Plot
A new character, Det Insp Dominic Gough, described as a charismatic officer known for busts of organized crime, faces allegations of misusing his authority to become a offender.
Yet, this investigation could be a deliberate distraction from a bigger threat still operating in the shadows, the teaser suggested.
In a statement, Jed Mercurio said: "All cast and crew feels enormous gratitude to the dedicated viewers."
"We're privileged to have had so many followers watch the developments of AC-12 over six previous seasons and we are thrilled to be coming back for a seventh season."
Mercurio continued: "Misconduct in the UK is supposed to have ended while Line of Duty was not airing, so I've been forced to use my imagination."
Actor Responses
The Scottish actor called being part of the police drama as "the role of a career".
"Beyond the show's success but the colleagues I've collaborated with I now call dear friends."
"I can't wait to wear the uniform again and get the team back together," he said.
The Nottingham-born actress remarked: "Obviously I'm very happy Line of Duty is returning! Can't wait to work with the creator, Compston and Adrian again. The city, we'll be there shortly!"
The veteran actor commented: "While anticipating the AC-12 return, how exciting it is to know that the Three Amigos will be working together next year."
"Delighted with the announcement and anticipating those mercurial plot developments."
Series Legacy
Line of Duty launched in the early 2010s and became a highly successful TV dramas of the last decade, attracting guest stars such as Thandiwe Newton.
Broadcasters haven't revealed when the upcoming series will premiere.
The conclusion of series six brought the long-running storyline about the search for kingpin known as "H" to a close, and the creative team indicated at the moment there were no plans for further series.
Nevertheless, the network confirmed on this week that a seventh series is now in development.
