Paris Saint-Germain Defeats Olympique de Marseille in a Shootout to Lift Trophee des Champions Season-Opening Trophy in the Middle East.

Trophy celebration scene

PSG has now won the season-opening trophy on fourteen separate times.

The Parisian giants required a stoppage-time leveler followed by a successful spot-kick decider to overcome Marseille in Kuwait and secure a record-extending fourth consecutive Trophee des Champions title.

The European champions appeared to be sailing towards a comfortable triumph in the showdown between the French league champions and the Coupe de France winners after Ousmane Dembele found the net in the opening stages.

Yet, the southern French side fired twice in the closing moments to seize a shock lead. Initially, the English forward converted from the penalty spot, before the defender unfortunately turned the ball into his own net for an own goal.

In a breathtaking twist of fortune, Goncalo Ramos grabbed a vital equaliser in the dying seconds to force the match into a deciding shootout. PSG goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier then stood as the hero, stopping decisive attempts from Matt O'Riley and Hamed Traore.

In the shootout, Goncalo Ramos, the midfielder, Nuno Mendes, and Desire Doue all converted with composure for PSG to seal a convincing shootout victory.

Now 14-time champions PSG, who faced last season's Ligue 1 runners-up Marseille after achieving a domestic double, have now won this trophy for the twelfth time in the last thirteen seasons.
