Exactly 30 years since the first Toy Story movie was released, launching Pixar as a leading animation studio and introducing audiences to iconic characters like the cowboy doll (the actor) and the space ranger (Tim Allen), who are now famous worldwide.

Coming in 2026, the next chapter is scheduled for release. The first teaser trailer for Toy Story 5 appeared this week, providing a brief look into the plot but leaving fans curious how it will address the ending of Toy Story 4.

Bonnie's New Toy: A Digital Device Frightens the Toys

In the teaser shows the young girl — who inherited the toy collection when he left for college — receiving a latest plaything, one that terrifies Woody, Buzz, and the crew. Bonnie gets her first tablet computer, and she is thrilled about it.

Theoretically, the frog-shaped tablet will animate just like Bonnie's other toys. However, the toys appear to consider it as a threat intending to supplant them, which it probably is.

Woody's Return: Unanswered Questions from Toy Story 4

One thing the teaser doesn't touch on is why the sheriff is returned with his friends in the child's bedroom. The end of Toy Story 4 depicted him set off on a fresh journey with Bo Peep (the actress), traveling with a carnival and helping prize toys find good homes.

Surely, Pixar will address the aftermath of Toy Story 4 in the film. Witnessing him appear in Bonnie's room without warning is a little strange, however. It also raises questions whether his partner will have come back with Woody. And where is the stuntman toy (the star)?

Continuity from the Last Installment

At the very least, some elements are continuing from the prior film. The last thing the cowboy did before departing for his fresh path was pass his sheriff badge to Jessie (Joan Cusack), leaving her in charge of Bonnie's bedroom. In the teaser shows the insignia pinned to her shirt.

Hopefully she is still the driving force among the toys.

Toy Story 5 arrives in theaters on June 19, 2026.
